John has been married to Louise since June 11 1966. They have a son age 45 (married with three children) and a son age 42 and an adopted daughter of 35 (married with one child). John and Louise moved around some as he was in the Canadian Air Force. Louise was used to it as her father was also military. Military surrounds the family. Their youngest son as a Combat Engineer in the reserves, their son in law has come back from his tour in Afghanistan, and Louise's brother and brother in law were in the Canadian forces.
John got into the insurance industry in Toronto with Mutual Life in 1972 where in his rookie year was named Rookie of the Year. After five years and not liking Toronto decided to move back to Manitoba which was home to both him and Louise. John from a farm near Strathclair and Louise originally from Gimli.
John worked at Xerox in Winnipeg but moved to Brandon to open his own business. But the insurance industry was in his blood so after a couple of years became a Sun Life agent. He later moved back to Winnipeg and joined Excelsior Life. During this time the opportunity to join forces with Earl and Rhoda Cook as their life agent came and he proceeded to get his general license. John's farm background leads him to doing most of his business within the agricultural community and that led him to Ranger and eventually landed him at BSI in 1995. During this time John obtained his CAIB designation.
In the past John has been on the board of Big Brothers of Brandon, Kinsman Club of Brandon, deacon in his church and on two different church building committees, been chairperson, but currently on board of Hockey Ministries (Winnipeg) since 1981, heavily involved with hockey as a player and WHL scout and has coached for close to 31 years including three years Junior A and five years Major Junior.
John and Louise are currently empty nesters and love it; although the nest gets crowded and busy with children and grandchildren. A girl 11 years, a girl 8 years, a boy 3 years and another boy 3 years.
