CPIB - Canadian Professional Insurance Broker
The Canadian Professional Insurance Broker (CPIB) is the senior designation program developed by IBAC and its provincial/regional member associations. It is specifically designed for P&C insurance brokers. CPIB courses are open to any student; however, admission requirements apply to those who are interested in earning a CPIB designation.
ABOUT THE COURSE
Brokers must complete 6 courses (3 mandatory and 3 elective) in their stream of specialization in order to obtain the designation.
STREAMS
Flexible and specialized, the CPIB program has three distinct streams of study – Personal Lines, Commercial Lines and Broker Management. Within each stream, three mandatory courses and three elective courses must be completed. The program’s courses may also be taken individually for general interest or Continuing Education Credits. Elective courses can be taken through a university or college of the student’s choosing (classroom study or distance learning options). Students then apply to IBAM for a transfer credit for an elective course successfully completed. Similarly, students may apply to IBAM for a transfer credit for an elective course taken at a university or community college prior to enrolling in the CPIB program. Students may have already completed some or all of their elective courses.
CPIB’s mandatory courses will be available through the Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba offices and may be taken by self-study. Elective courses should be taken through a university or college of the student’s choosing. Students would then apply for a transfer of credit for an elective course successfully completed. Similarly, students can apply to IBAM for a transfer of credit for an elective course taken at a recognized university or community college prior to enrolling in the CPIB program.
At most universities, CPIB students can apply their electives towards an undergraduate degree while completing the program. Please consult your university to determine its requirements.
