A Great Partnership for a Good Cause
Legend told of an annual Broker vs Company hockey game that was played for a good cause and for good fun, but blades had not met ice for this event in several years! That changed this year when Wawanesa Insurance and Guild Insurance Group met on the ice to play in a charity hockey game that raised over $5,500.00 for the United Way.
A desire by both Wawanesa Insurance and Guild Insurance to bring back this traditional charity hockey game led to both organizations co-hosting the game on November 10th at the Wawanesa Arena. The primary purpose of the hockey game was to raise money for the United Way, a charity supported by both Guild and Wawanesa, but the outcome of the night was far greater. The evening brought out well over 100 community members (in a town with a population of approximately 600) to share in the social evening and support the United Way, saw three different father/son duos team up on the ice and brought together the teams from Wawanesa and Guild Insurance to cheer on their respective skaters. The teams battled hard on the ice, with the game being within one goal for most of the evening, but in the end Guild came out ahead, being the first to win the “Bad Hockey, Good Cause Cup.” The ultimate winner of the event will be the United Way who will benefit from the donation and will be able to put the money towards advancement of their core mission of “Enpower(ing) everyone to improve lives and build strong communities.” Skaters, fans and community members all agreed that this event should be an annual one and those interested can watch for the 2nd Annual, Bad Hockey Good Cause Cup to be played in 2024.
