Kevin Chamagua
I was born and raised in El Salvador as the oldest of two children, and I am the second generation to graduate from university. With the help of my family, I immigrated to Winnipeg in August 2016 to pursue my higher education. I graduated from the Asper School of Business at The University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce. I chose to major as a Generalist as I realized accounting was not the right fit for me, and I wanted to keep my options open to other potential careers related to business.
After graduation, I spent a few years in management roles before Columbia Insurance Brokers offered me the opportunity to interview for a position at their office. Without knowing anything about the job I was applying for, I promptly sent in my resume. To my surprise, after being hired as a property and casualty specialist, I had only ten days to study and pass the first exam due to scheduling.
I am proud to say I passed and immediately began my career as an insurance broker. I believe I have found the right career for me, and I am thankful to work for a small, independently-owned, community-oriented business. I am looking forward to completing my CAIB designation and learning everything I can about the industry.
I am excited to join the YBN to be able to connect with other brokers and to contribute to creating more inclusive spaces for brokers like me.
When not in the office, you can find me bike riding, sun tanning at the beach, practicing with my sewing machine, and perfecting my craft as a drag queen.
